There’s more fun in the sand at the 2017 Sand Safari Arts Festival! Sand Safari is an arts festival that put sand in the spotlight of Surfers Paradise. It’s a sand and sea inspired festival happening on 10-26 February 2017.

Want to see the best sand sculptors in the country display their works? Head on over to the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships! It’s a competition that will make you appreciate the country’s most talented sand sculptors as they carve out life-sized masterpieces. This year’s theme is “Mermaids and Mythical Creatures.” The competition will happen on 10-12 February 2017.

You have an important part to play in determining who the winner is because your vote matters! Each life-sized masterpiece will be carved from 10 tonnes of sand and will remain on display until 26th February.

The whole festival will be based in Surfers Paradise. To kick off the festival, there will be a Sand Trail – a series of more than 20 works of pop-up art in different locations such as hotel lobbies, libraries and shopping centres from Tweed Heads to Loganholme.

Be amazed by UK’s renowned “inflatablist,” Luke Egan (also known as Filthy Luker) as he returns to exhibit his clever inflatable art in Surfers Paradise.

There will also be a series of sand and sea inspired art that will feature murals, photography and pop-up galleries. There will also be sand art activities and workshops throughout the festival.

Sand Safari 2017 aims to make you rediscover the beauty of Surfers Paradise in the simplest thing: sand. But it’s a bigger and better Sand Safari this year so you’re very welcome to go to as many events as possible!
